Humann Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope you are enjoying a rejuvenating summer filled with laughter, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones. As we gear up for another exciting school year, we warmly welcome familiar faces and newcomers to the Humann family.

The past month has been full of activity at Humann as our dedicated staff work hard fine-tuning our practices and preparing for the adventure ahead. This year, our guiding theme is “Plant Kindness and See What Grows!” Small acts of kindness have the power to transform not only individuals but entire communities, and we’re eager to see the ripple effect of kindness throughout our school.

Speaking of summer adventures, my family and I have relished the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature, whether it’s been soaking up the sun by the lake or cheering on our boys, Carter and Jack, as they hit the courts and fields. These moments together have been precious, reminding us of the importance of family bonds and creating lasting memories.

We extend a heartfelt welcome to our newest members, particularly our kindergarteners and their families. Your journey with us is just beginning, and we’re thrilled to have you onboard. Remember, your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable, and we encourage you to actively participate in their learning journey.

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, let’s embrace it with grit, determination, and a relentless attitude. Together, we’ll navigate challenges, celebrate triumphs, and create a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

This year, we welcome some additional professionals to Humann:

  • Ellie Nelson- Fifth-Grade Teacher
  • Calli Terrell- Special Education
  • Amy Carnie- School Psychologist
  • Whitney Hill- Early Childhood Paraprofessional

A message from Humann’s Assistant Principal, Jess Ankerson:

I want to send a warm Husky welcome to our new families.  I am excited for the 2024-2025 school year and cannot wait to hear about your student’s summer experiences!  This will be my 9th year at Humann as assistant principal!  Before that, I was at Huntington and served as a special education teacher and special education coordinator.

When I’m not at Humann, you can typically find me with my family outside.  My husband, Matt, and I have four children; Nate-11, Kenzley-10, Kiptyn-4, and Jaxon-3.  This summer we have enjoyed a few rounds of golf, going to movies, playing games of basketball, baseball, and volleyball!  We also decided to plant a garden for the second year in a row, while weeding and cleaning vegetables this year, I have had  many exciting thoughts about our theme for the upcoming year “Plant Kindness and see What Grows!”

If you ever have any questions or want to problem solve, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I know personally that navigating the complexities of raising children can sometimes be overwhelming, we are here for you!

A message from Humann’s Coordinator, Laura Heller:

Hello Husky Families! I am so excited for the new school year and to continue to work with the members of the Humann community as your new Special Education Coordinator. This will be my 3rd year at Humann Elementary, but my first year as special education coordinator. I have spent the last two years in the classroom at Humann teaching 4th and 5th grade. Prior to being at Humann, I taught at Pershing Elementary and also at an elementary school in Goodyear, Arizona. I just recently graduated with my masters in educational leadership from Doane University.

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my husband, Corbin and our kids, Theo, who will be three during the first week of school, and Isla, who was born on the last day of school during the previous school year.  This summer we spent a lot of time together as a family whether that was inside enjoying the newborn snuggles with Isla or outside at the park, the zoo, the golf course, or simply in our driveway playing games and sports with Theo. We also enjoyed a short trip out to western Nebraska to visit family and to Lake Okoboji, Iowa.

My goal is to make sure that each and every student has a positive experience at school. I look forward to partnering with you and your child to make sure that students can be successful. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions, concerns, or if you just want to chat.
