2025-2026 Summer Mailer

Humann Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! We hope you had a wonderful summer break and are ready to join us for a great year of learning. It is with anticipation and excitement that I continue my leadership journey at Humann! Though I know many students and families from my time at Humann, I also want to take a minute to share a little information about myself. I am looking forward to learning more about you and your student(s) this year.

I have spent my life in Nebraska and Arizona – I was born in Omaha, lived in the west valley of Phoenix for all of my elementary school years, then my family moved back to Nebraska to the small town (well, it was a small town) of Bennington. I graduated from Doane College where I met my husband Corbin. Corbin works for Hudl as a sales manager. We have two wonderful children who keep us very busy. Our son Theo will be four at the beginning of the school year, and our daughter Isla turned one at the end of this last school year. A fun educator fact that I will forever share about my children is this: Theo was born on the first day of school, and Isla was born on the last day of school. We love spending time together as a family outside at the park, the zoo, the golf course, or simply in our driveway playing games and sports. Isla has recently learned how to walk and Theo has learned to ride his bike, so we are always outside on the move! This summer we took trips to western Nebraska and Branson, Missouri. Corbin and I also had a nice weekend getaway to Chicago which he had never been to. I grew up a Cubs fan, so I was so excited for him to experience the magic of Wrigley Field.

After college, I spent a year teaching third grade at a school in Phoenix, but I ultimately decided that I wanted to be closer to my family. This led me back to Nebraska to teach at Pershing Elementary where I spent five years teaching third grade. At Humann I have taught fourth and fifth grade, and most recently I was the Special Education Coordinator. I am so excited for the opportunity to continue to serve the Humann community as Principal and continue to build relationships with the families and students who are part of this wonderful community.

We extend a warm welcome to our newest Huskies, particularly our kindergarteners and their families. Your journey with us is just beginning, and we’re thrilled to have you onboard. Your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable, and we encourage you to actively participate in their learning journey. We are excited to start the 2025-26 school year and look forward to celebrating our school-wide theme of Dream Big, Try Everything, and Never Give Up!

This year, we welcome some additional professionals to Humann:

  • Hunter Noren- Fifth-Grade Teacher
  • Hannah Schizas – Special Education
  • Megan Manning-Kechley – Band Instructor
  • Megan Harrington – Family Educator
  • Marci Powers – Executive Office Professional
  • Kayla Oman – Special Education
  • Cari-Lynn Wenstrand – Strings Instructor

A message from Humann’s Assistant Principal, Jess Ankerson:

I want to extend a heartfelt Husky welcome to all of our new families! I’m truly excited for the school year ahead and can’t wait to hear all about your student’s summer adventures.

This will be my 10th year at Humann as the assistant principal, and I feel so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school community. Prior to Humann, I was at Huntington Elementary, where I served as a special education teacher and coordinator. My passion for education is rooted in advocating for all students and helping them reach their full potential.

When I’m not at school, you’ll usually find me outdoors with my family. My husband, Matt, and I have four children—Nate (12), Kenzley (11), Kiptyn (5), and Jaxon (4). This year I will have three kids in school as my son, Kiptyn, is starting kindergarten. This summer, we’ve enjoyed a few rounds of golf, trips to the movies, and lots of games—basketball, baseball, and volleyball!

If you ever have questions or want to talk through a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As a parent myself, I know that raising children can be both rewarding and challenging. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Looking forward to a great year together!

A message from Humann’s Coordinator, Carli Roberts:

Hello, Humann Families! I am beyond thrilled to join this community as the Special Education Coordinator for the 2025-2026 school year. Prior to joining the Husky community, I have been a teacher for the past seven years at the Donald D. Sherrill Education Center, and have taught in both general and special education at Dawes, McPhee, Riley and Brownell. This will be my 17th year in the district! I graduated with my Masters in Educational Administration from Concordia University in 2014.

When I’m not at school, I am spending time with my two spirited children, Exavior – 15, and Zoey – 13, and our two Mini Schnauzers, Louie and Winnie. As a family, we spend a lot of time at football games in the fall and track meets in the spring. We also spend almost every Sunday having family lunches with my parents and grandparents who live in the country outside of Bennet, Nebraska. There, we get to surround ourselves with family, baby cows, and lots of other fun animals. This has become one of our favorite family traditions.

My hopes for this new school year is to become fully embraced in what it means to be a Humann Husky, and to partner with you and your child in their educational journey every step of the way! I look forward to meeting you all and cannot wait to get the year started!

    Important Census Information

The Annual Online Registration Verification (formerly the census form), Health History Form, the request to provide medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen), and the Free/Reduced Meal Application forms MUST be completed online.

For the Annual Online Registration Verification: Starting July 14th, parents and guardians will verify their child(ren)’s enrollment information through the online parent portal, ParentVUE. The Health History Form and the request to provide medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen) permission form are now part of the Annual Online Registration Verification.

You must have an LPS ParentVue account to complete this process.  (Activation is a one-time setup).  To create your ParentVue account, please contact the Humann school office for an activation key.  Your ParentVue account will be used for the duration you have a student in LPS.  You will need a valid email address to create your ParentVue account.  You may obtain a free email account through services such as Google if you do not have one.

If you already use ParentVue, there is nothing more you need to do to prepare.  You will be ready to complete the annual Online Registration Verification process when it opens on July 15th.  If you have previously activated your ParentVue account but can’t remember your password, you can reset it online at https://synergyvue.lps.org/.

On July 22nd, the Free/Reduced Lunch Application link will be found under the Popular Pages on the district website’s homepage, www.lps.org.

    Building Information

    Arrival Information

    • Our arrival procedures will remain the same as last school year. All scholars, K-5, will continue to enter the building through the main doors. Students arrive on property from many different directions. All students should go directly to the front of the school and follow the arrival procedures. Each grade level has a line on the walkway leading to Door #1. Grade level lines will be identified using cones with grade level signs. Students will stand and wait on their grade level line prior to 8:53 a.m.
    • If your scholar eats breakfast at school, they will line up on the yellow breakfast line and enter beginning at 8:35 a.m.
    • Scholars are asked to stand on their grade level line until supervisors lead them in.
    • Students who arrive before 8:45 a.m. will be directed to the multipurpose room for breakfast to ensure proper supervision.
    • At 8:53 a.m., school staff will lead scholars into the building.
Between 8:30 and 9:00 AM, the carline is designated for quick student drop-off only. If your child needs extra time in the car (for example, to finish breakfast or to wait until the 8:45 drop off time), please find a parking spot rather than waiting in the carline. Waiting in the drop-off lane can cause delays for other families—especially those whose students are heading into the building for breakfast. To help keep the carline running smoothly, please have your student exit the car promptly. There’s no need to wait and move up to a different spot—allowing your student to exit right away keeps things moving for everyone.

    Lunch Information

We have made changes to our lunchroom layout and procedures that will affect our procedures with visitors. There will no longer be a visitor table in the lunchroom. Visitors will be able to sit with their student and his/her classmates at the tables assigned to your student’s class. We ask that visitors wait to sit at a table until seeing your student. In addition, please do not take pictures of other children during your visit or share food with other students. If you have a question about our new procedures, please do not hesitate to ask a staff member in the lunchroom.

As we begin the school year, we are focused on helping students learn new lunchroom routines and expectations, including table assignments and procedures that support a smooth experience for everyone. To support this transition, we kindly ask that families hold off on visiting students for lunch during the first two weeks of school.

        Communication: Friday Folder/Human Happenings Newsletter

Students at Humann will have a designated folder that they take to and from school. While materials from the classroom (homework, finished class assignments, or projects) may be sent home with your student in their folder daily, you can expect to see other pertinent information in your child’s folder on Fridays Please empty the folder, go through the contents with your child, and return necessary documents on Monday.

The Humann Happenings Newsletter will be sent electronically to all families each month on the first school Friday of that month. You can expect to receive the first one on August 22 as we do not have school during the first week of August.

We hope you will also consider joining our school and PTO’s Facebook pages.

As we embark on this new school year, we want you to know that the staff at Humann is committed to partnering with you to ensure a productive and successful year for your children. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any concerns or questions. Whether it’s your child’s teacher, our Assistant Principal, Jess Ankerson, our Coordinator, Carli Roberts, or myself, we are here to support you.

I hope you continue to savor the remaining summer days with loved ones. We look forward to reconnecting with each of you soon!

        Sincerely,

        Laura Heller, Principal
