Curriculum

The music program at Humann is part of a specialist rotation. Second, Third and Fourth Grades attend music class once every four days for 50 minutes. Because of class size, First and Fifth Grades attend music class once every five days for fifty minutes. In music, students learn about melody, rhythm, harmony, tone color/expressive qualities and form with activities that engage them in singing, creating/improvising, playing instruments, notating and responding to music. We also develop an appreciation for a wide variety of musical styles. Throughout their time here at Humann we work not only on developing everyone’s first instrument, the voice, but students will also learn to play harmony patterns and melodies on xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, recorders, and guitars. Students will be actively involved in making music from singing and dancing to playing and creating.

All students in grades first through fourth grade will show off their musical talents at an annual program. (see schedules) Fifth grade students have the opportunity to join the 5th Grade Chorus which performs twice a year in the Winter and Spring. Fifth graders also have the opportunity to join band, and fourth graders can choose to participate in the strings program.
